My passion began in high school. I was always interested in the visual arts of drawing and painting, but my art teacher suggested that I branch out into photography as well. My mom bought me my first camera; a film Olympus model. Photography was a lot different from drawing and painting, but I learned that I liked that art form as well. We were taught the rules and the science behind photography, and developed our own film and prints in the school's darkroom. In my first year as a photography student, I won a local contest. My submission was a black and white photo of my then 10-year-old nephew putting together a train set. I knew then that photography was something that I would pursue.
Surprisingly, I took no art classes in college, not even photography. Being a young adult with a child, entertaining my love of the arts was too expensive. But the passion never died, Eventually, I returned to photography roughly eight years ago. My images have appeared in print, and websites of Core Detroit, Portrait of Detroit, Depict the D, Visit Detroit, Eastern Market Corporation, People for Palmer Park, and Metro Times. I have been selected to cover music festivals Charivari and Movement, both in Detroit, for several years. I am also a winner of the 2017 My Detroit postcard contest.
I photograph everything! This is my hobby and I take great pleasure in it. But this website is the result of friends and family urging me to take my passion a step further.
Welcome, and thanks for stopping by!
